Are you working on a new album? Just listened to Shiver and am really enjoying it! I can hear so many influences in Shiver...were there any specific influences for you when creating it?

Yes, I am actually in the middle of tracking it now. I am on the road so much that it is taking a bit of time, but so far it is coming out really nice. My influences are so many, obviously working with Porcupine Tree creates a lot of influence, but also bands like Govt. Mule and Oceansize and solo artist like Patty Griffin and Shawn Colvin come in to play as well. Guitarist like Jeff Beck and Dave Gilmour....all good music bleeds in really.

Q

Thanks for playing San Diego again, please do not ever play at 4th and B again it is without a doubt the worst sounding venue in the world. It resonated like a bad high school gym. you guys wer great

Thanks, hope you enjoyed the show. You must understand, we never pick the venues we play, the agents handle that, so we were just as surprised as you. See you next time through...all the best...JW

Q

Hi John, you are a greata guitar player, am a big fan of porcupine tree as your own work, like guitar player, i want to ask to you, how do you do use the effects? and get a clear sound?

John Wesley responded on 08/15/2010
A

I really work at using top level effects and creating a balance of not to much effect over guitar sound. It also really helps if your amp has an effects loop, although I went years with out using an effects loop. People sometimes run the effects very hot, if I don't have an effects loop, the secret is to turn delays and verbs barely up...using them more as a wash and a color, it works great.

Q

Hi John, I'm interested in lyrics writing: how does it happen that you sit (do you sit?) and write something satisfying you?
=D THX!

I really look around to the world that I live in, and create stories from those things I see. People I care about and my own life form the basis for characters, then I create stories about these characters and use personal experiences.

Q

Hey John! Is there a chance that you will join Porcupine Tree permanently as you are playing a lot with them live? I saw you live with them in Bergen, Norway in June, your performance were fantastic!

John Wesley responded on 08/15/2010
A

I am a "live touring" member, Steven does all the recording on guitar and does it very well, but he likes to have me with him live. So it will remain.

Q

Hey! I'm from Warsaw, Poland. I know that a month ago You played in Łódź in my country with Porcupine Tree. It was a great concert!!!! But will You come again with Your own material? Greetings!

I hope to come next year, it's all about promoters, so hopefully I will be invited when the new album comes out.

Q

What's your favourite gtr effect? THX Marco

I love several, the Rockbox Boiling Point is really nice, the Klon Centaur rules....all the Analogman effects are great, love the fulltone stuff as well.
